AOC: Let’s Talk About Biden’s #MeToo Problem

One of the most delightful qualities of Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) is that she can irritate her nominal own side almost as much as she does the rest of America.

A case in point concerns the accusations levied against former Vice President Joe Biden by a former staffer named Tara Reade. Reade claimed that while still a United States Senator, Biden backed her up against the wall and sexually assaulted her.

Reade’s accusation has turned out to be a problem for the Democratic Party and Democratic operatives with bylines in the media. Using the precedent set against a myriad of Republicans going back to Clarence Thomas, Biden ought to be named and shamed as a sexual predator. He certainly should not be nominated as the Democratic nominee for president.

To be sure, the left is following another precedent, that being of Bill Clinton. Clinton has been accused of a long string of sexual assaults, including forcible rape. However, the reaction by the media during the Clinton presidency consisted of eye-rolling.

Thus far, Reade is getting the Clinton bimbo eruption treatment? #MeToo? Believe all women? Please. Biden, for all of his myriad deficits, is the only person standing between the world and four more years of the Bad Orange Man. So, the former vice president must be protected at all costs.

However, as it turns out, Ocasio-Cortez is not being a team player in this case. To be sure, she claims to support Biden, absolutely. However, as Fox News reports, AOC is certainly willing to talk about Tara Reade and his story of victimization by a powerful male senator.

“What you’re voicing is so legitimate and real. That’s why I find this kind of silencing of all dissent to be a form of gaslighting. I think it’s legitimate to talk about these things. And if we want, if we, again, want to have integrity, you can’t say, you know — both believe women, support all of this until it inconveniences you until it inconveniences us.”

Whatever other Democrats think of what AOC has said, Reade tweeted her appreciation. “
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is literally the first member of Congress to address publicly what happened to me when I worked for Joe Biden. Thank you @AOC”

The first thing that has occurred to observers of the political scene is the question, what is Ocasio-Cortez up to? Is she pretending to support Biden while at the same time trying to undermine him?

Hot Air suggests that AOC is just being AOC in taking her shots at Biden.

“These are precisely the type of headlines that the DNC is trying desperately to avoid. (And they’re getting a lot of cover from the majority of media outlets thus far.) But to be honest, this sort of conversation is pretty much right on brand for AOC, so she’s at least demonstrating some consistency here.

It’s also hard to ignore the possibility that she really doesn’t mind getting in some shots at Joe Biden. I’m not saying that she wants to see Biden damaged to the point where he has to be yanked from the ticket, perhaps opening the door back up for Bernie. But I’m also not saying she’d be terribly upset if things happened to work out that way.”

If Biden were to go down in flames because of Tara Reade or for any other reason, his senior moments, his gaffes, and his tendency to paw and sniff every female to come within arms reach come to mind, most political analysts do not see Bernie sliding into his place.

Biden may be a creepy, perverted man with clear signs of dementia. But Bernie is still a Bolshevik. Despite the popularity that socialism still holds for young voters, Sanders is absolutely toxic in a general election.

Hot Air does not think that AOC speaking out about Biden’s alleged assault against Tara Reade is going to move in the mainstream media. If they could cover up for Bill Clinton, the media can certainly perform the same service for old Uncle Joe Biden.

Still, Reade’s story could become a running sore rubbed in by right-leaning news organizations such as Fox News, talk radio, and certain media sites.

The drumbeat of Hillary Clinton’s past as a rape enabler during the 2016 presidential election helped to erode her support during that campaign. The same thing could happen to Biden in 2020.
